LIBRARY FEATURES BARN BOOK AT WV BOOK FESTIVAL IN CHARLESTON
On October 13th and 14th the Summers County Public Library representatives, were at the Charleston Civic Center participating in the 12th Annual West Virginia Book Festival. The focus of the library exhibit was to promote the book, "Barns of Summers County, West Virginia Heritage" by Phyllis Campbell Whitley. The book, launched in November, 2011 at the Ritz Theatre in Hinton, has been declared a success and has been a great fundraiser for the library. Mrs. Whitley was there to promote the book and make sales to benefit the library. She was accompanied by her husband, A. C. and cousin Mrs. Joyce Waltman of Forest Hill, who spent many hours with her during the four year period she spent traveling every road in the county to photograph and document the history of old barns and the people who built them. Ms Deya Terrafranca assisted with the booth preparation. Mrs. Barbara Parmer, President of the Hinton Friends of the Library, visited the booth on both days of the Festival.
Over sixty authors, publishers, state organizations and libraries presented displays. Activities included book signings, used book sales, other vendors and exhibitors, activities for children, storytellers , and workshops. Headlining authors who spoke about their work were Charlotte Harris, Craig Johnson, Dan Chaon and Tamora Pierce.
